There are more than 50 pieces of legislation governing the manufacture of pet food.
Pet food production is highly regulated in the UK to ensure it is of utmost safety, hygiene and quality. Different legislation in place to ensure every stage of the manufacturing process is designed with animal health and safety in mind.
UK Pet Food supports our members so that they can consistently produce quality pet food, which meets the highest safety standards.
Latest industry guidance on safety & standards
Members of UK Pet Food follow strict guidelines when making pet foods and we work to ensure they have access to the Regulations that govern the manufacturing of pet food, as well as support for on the latest Trade requirements. We have also developed our own Guidelines for more complex areas, such as the production of raw pet food, and we expect our members producing raw pet food to follow them.
To demonstrate our commitment to providing pets with quality, nutritious and safe food, all UK Pet Food members sign our UK Pet Food Member Charter every year. The Charter details the legal requirements, Codes of Practice and guidelines which ensure safety & quality standards at every stage of the manufacturing process.
Regular training
UK Pet Food hosts a range of Events and Training throughout the calendar year, from our popular Annual Convention to our hugely successful Pet Food and Nutrition Training Course and sector-specific Symposiums, as well as educational webinar content created in conjunction with our Associate Members.
Some of these events are open to non-members and the wider pet industry, whereas others are member-only – or members receive a significant discount on the cost.
