Sarah Calcutt, City Harvest CEO
Sarah a 5th generation farmer from Kent, a Nuffield Scholar, an Honorary Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers and Chair of its awards council. In October 2024 Sarah was made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Society.
Initially training to be a buyer, Sarah has spent the last thirty years working across the food and farming sector in the UK and abroad, working with land-based educators, growers and developing new markets across a range of crops. Sarah has written for the farming and food trade press for the last 25 years and is an experienced interviewee and commentator.
Sarah was appointed as CEO of leading London Food Charity, City Harvest in October 2022 following an 18-month period volunteering as part of its Food Council. City Harvest is unique in its space, offering free food to community organisations, delivering valuable nutrition, rich in fruits and vegetables all reclaimed from waste streams and primary production.
In addition to her role at City Harvest, Sarah is also a Non-Exec Director of The Covent Garden Market Authority, a government appointment, part of the team stewarding the regeneration of London’s premier wholesale market. Sarah has just stepped down from a 15-year term of office as chair of the National Fruit show, the fruit sector’s charity.
Sarah was a founder and first vice-chair of the Rural Policy group and a champion of its APPG for fair pricing in food. The RPG is a rural and food sector debating forum hosting numerous online and in person debates about the policy and economic needs of the UK's rural business community.
Mary Parsons, City Harvest, Head of Food
Mary is an accomplished leader with over fourteen years in the food industry, spanning roles in both private and nonprofit sectors. As Head of Food at City Harvest, she sources and directs the distribution of over a million meals monthly, reducing food waste whilst supporting communities in need. Previously, at COOK, she led product innovation and quality across three factories, earning multiple Great Taste Awards. Mary’s leadership combines operational excellence with a dedication to sustainability and social impact.
